Case study overview
Overview
Complete the project: a case study that's focused on a national rental car company called Lariat. Lariat wants to make better decisions about the vehicles that they purchase for their national fleet. Lariat will provide you with two things: First, they will provide the dataset that they want you to use. Second, they will establish the business objective of minimizing costs and maximizing revenue. Beyond that, they are leaning on you to derive insights and recommendations.
Requirements
You're consulting as a data analyst for Lariat. They've hired you to make suggestions on how to make smarter business decisions. Your job is to analyze the costs and revenue generated by their rental car fleet. They've provided you with raw data in the following four Excel workbooks.
• car_id_mapping
• car_costs
• car_revenue
• branch_location
Based on this raw data and their business objective, Lariat has asked you to produce the following deliverables:
• An Excel model that they can use to make data-informed decisions about their fleet. This should be based on their observed cost and revenue data in recent years.
• A PowerPoint deck that provides an analysis of the problem, along with your suggestions.
• A live presentation in which you share your findings with a Lariat executive.
You'll have full control from start to finish—from cleaning the raw data files to presenting your analysis. Imagine that this is a real-world, on-the-job project.
Exemplar files
As you prepare for this capstone, check out the exemplar files linked below. These files demonstrate the process that you'll complete in this capstone, using a dataset that revolves around a similar project faced by a ski resort company.
The following datasets are similar to the datasets that you downloaded for Lariat.
• Ski ID mapping
• Ski costs
• Ski revenue
• Ski resort location
And here are some examples of what the final products may look like:
• Creating your model and conducting analysis
• Preparing your presentation
Lessons and rubrics
To steer you through the project, this capstone is divided into several lessons. There are a total of five lessons, three of which will have graded assessments. These lessons will break up the project into more easily managed chunks:
• Creating your model and conducting analysis
• Preparing your presentation
• Presenting your findings
Read through each rubric in the lessons above before you get started, and use the relevant rubric as a guide as you work through each lesson.
