Part B
instructions:
Create a Word document with text as if you were writing up a statistical analysis report. Embed the figures and tables into your document. You can copy tables by selecting the table, right-click, and copy as picture then paste into Word. Similarly, with graphs, click on the window with the graph, Ctrl-C to copy, then paste into Word.
Important: it is unacceptable to just answer with a graph or a number. You have to write a sentence or two describing what you observe and your interpretation. Please include units (mm, inches, pounds, mm/L, etc.) when reporting any numbers. Be professional in your homework report.
*Please turn in Stata .do File in addition to your Word document (example do. File is attached)
We expect you to include all commands necessary to complete the homework and leave detailed comments explaining what the commands do.
To open the .do file, launch STATA and go to 'File' -> 'Open' and navigate to where the .do file is saved on your computer. This will open it in the .do file editor which you can use to make changes and create your own .do files.
Download Body Fat.csv and complete the following questions in Stata. This dataset contains observations of 252 male subjects from a study where the percentage of body fat was determined by underwater weighing and various body circumference measurements (body fat excel attached)
(a) Create a histogram of percent body fat.
(b) Change the number of bins in the histogram of percent body fat to 5, 10, 20 and 50. Which choice(s) for the number of bins do you find the most useful to get insight of the distribution of the variable?
(c) Create a boxplot of percent body fat. Find the median, Q1, Q3, upper wisker and lower whisker. Describe what you observe.
(d) Create a scatter plot of percent body fat and density determined from underwater weighing.
Describe what you observe.
(e) Use Stata to create a new categorical variable called Body_type, by classifying variable Per_body_fat into the following 5 categories: Essential fat (0 − 5%], Athletes (5 − 14%], Fitness (14 − 18%], Average (18 − 25%] and Overweight above 25%. What this means is that, for example, if Per_body_fat is between 0 and 5% (including 5%), variable Body_type would be classified into category “Essential fat.” Use Stata to generate a summary table of the frequency and relative frequency for variable Body_type.
