Download the Assignment_1.xlsx data file from Canvas and use this Excel file as the data source for this assignment. Create a new Tableau workbook called Assignment_1.twb and add the following 3 worksheets to it, based on the following instructions. Hint: You can start every question by adding the ‘State’ pill to the ‘Rows’ shelf.
1) Create a worksheet called ‘Question 1’. The title for this map must be ‘2020 Presidential Election Map’.
This worksheet should show a map of the 48 contiguous US states (plus DC, as well as a little bit of Alaska). The states won by Dems in 2020 must be shaded blue and those won by Reps in 2020 must be shaded red. The state names must show up for at least some states (and possibly for all states, if they don’t overlap with each other and get messy). State names must show up in white color, with font size 10 and in bold lettering. (Hint: Use the controls that show up in the map in order to move the map and zoom in and out as needed.)
2) Create a worksheet called ‘Question 2’. The title for this chart must be ‘2020 Results In Battleground States’.
This worksheet should show a treemap containing only the 2020 battleground states. The size of the rectangles must be proportional to the number of seats in those states. The states won by Dems in 2020 must be shaded blue and those won by Reps in 2020 must be shaded red. Every state must have a label containing its name and its number of seats. The label for each rectangle in this treemap must be both horizontally centered and vertically centered within that rectangle, must show up in white color and must be underlined.
3) Create a worksheet called ‘Question 3’. Please give this chart an appropriate title (but something other than the name of this worksheet).
This worksheet should show a packed bubble chart such that the size of the bubbles corresponds to the number of seats in the various states. The labels on each bubble (i.e., for each and every state) must be the name of the state and the number of times that state voted Dem in the last 8 elections. This chart must contain 3 colors based on the number of times the states voted Dem in the last 8 elections, with the bubble being blue for values 6/7/8, purple for values 3/4/5 and red for values 0/1/2. This chart should be sorted in descending order of the number of times the states voted Dem in the last 8 elections. (Hint: Use the ‘Sort’ option in the State pill, then select the ‘Field’ option in the ‘Sort By’ dropdown, then choose the desired field by which to sort.)
