A1.4

Does Duration have an impact on Height? Explain.

Dataset Variables

Time = Time of day (minutes since midnight) at which the eruption actually began, i.e., beginning of time at which water comes out of geyser.

Duration = Length of the previous eruption in minutes.

Interval = Length of time (in minutes) between this eruption and previous eruption.

Preplay = Time of day (minutes since midnight) at which preplay began, where 'preplay' is the time at which the geyser begins a bubbling splash that occurs prior to eruptions.

Height = Estimated height of previous eruption (in feet).

Predict = Time of day (minutes since midnight) at which eruption was predicted to begin. Note: The height of eruption is estimated as follows: A ranger sits in the visitors' center near Old Faithful and observes the eruption. He or she uses a particular tree as a reference marker for the top of the water column (e.g., the water column was just above the third branch). The ranger then estimates the height of the eruption using his mental image of the tree's reference point and a diagram of the tree that has distances marked on it.
