INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

Instructions:

1.      This case study is to be submitted through Blackboard. On the left side pane select “Assignments”, click on the link, then upload your solution file. After due date, the link will be gone.

2.      You are expected to solve this assignment using SOLVER extension on MS EXCEL. An MS Word (or PDF) file is to be prepared, where you present the solutions and conclusions you obtained through solving this assignment on MS EXCEL.

3.      This is a GROUP work: Each member should contribute to it. Collaboration between groups of the same section or other sections is PROHIBITED. Please adhere to these regulations for your own individual benefit.

4.      Any member can submit the case study in the name of his group. There is no need for each member to upload the assignment.

5.      You are expected to submit TWO files: The MS EXCEL file with the solution, and a report written on MS Word (or PDF). The files should have proper formatting and labeling. Use the final report requirement bellow to prepare your report.

6.      Not following any of the instructions stated above will result in a DEDUCTION of 1 mark for each member of the group per violated instruction, except for instruction number 3, as we will follow the procedure found in the rules and regulations of KAU.

7.      Some questions require you to make ASSUMPTIONS about some information not given in the question statement. Use your wise judgment to do so.

8.      Your overall score will be on BlackBoard as soon as your instructor completes the grading.

Final Report Requirements:

·         Cover page: It includes course name, project title, students’ names and ID numbers.

·         Table of contents: The contents and their page numbers.

·         Introduction for the project: Introduce the project’s main problem and its surrounding environment. Overview the remaining topics of the report.

·         Project Management: Organize the tasks of the project in a timeline scale using Gantt chart. Distribute the tasks among the group members and show that in the chart.

·         Problem Formulation (Modeling):

o   Define the decision variables.

o   Write and explain the objective function. Identify and explain all objective function coefficients (cj).

o   Identify and explain all constraints, which includes:

§  Identify and explain all constraints attributes (aij).

§  Identify and explain all right-hand side values (bi).

§  Identify and explain any other supporting data, if available.

·         Problem Solution: Generate an optimal solution for the problem using a software package. Attach the software input and output in the appendix of the report.

·         Results and discussion: Analyze the output of the optimal solution. Explain the results and the suggested decisions. Answer all the questions from the case study here.

·         Conclusion: What was learned from the considered problem and the results.

·         References: Give full bibliographic information on all materials cited in the report and the sources of data used in it. It should have some website addresses.

·         Appendix: Contains software input and output and any material that is not directly needed in the report’s main body.

·         The criteria are as follows:

o   We will note the time and date each team submitted their solution files.

o   A compiled list of all sections will be made that arrange the teams in ascending order, where the earliest submission is at the top.

o   The submissions in the list will be examined one by one. The first team that does not violate any of the instructions and get a grade of at least 80% will receive the first place.

o   The rest of the teams will be examined in a similar fashion.

o   If none of the remaining teams satisfy the conditions, the prize will be withheld.
