Halloween Visualization This assignment is to create data visualizations using data collected about trick-or-treaters in Cincinnati, OH. Your are advised to generate collection of charts or a dashboard or two, whatever is necessary to get your message across. The Data Data has been collected since 2008 and is updated annually on the DataPlusScience.com blog. https://www.dataplusscience.com/HalloweenData.html The trick-or-treat count was recorded in 30 minute intervals. The night of trick-or-treating has always been on October 31st each year (some neighborhoods change the night of trick-or-treating). Official trick or treat hours are from 6pm-8pm, but there are often "stragglers" past 8pm that are not turned away. These stragglers are counted in the 8pm-8:15pm time slot. There has never been a trick-or-treater past 8:15pm. The type of candy did not vary year by year. It is always a general mix of candy purchased in bulk variety bags. Location of home: Neighborhood: East Walnut Hills/Evanston being a corner house on the neighborhood border likely increases the number of trick-or-treaters City: Cincinnati State: Ohio Country: United States Zip Code: 45207 The Assignment 1.) Determine a story or goal for the visualization. Examples: Homeowner dashboard summarizing Halloween Forecast future trick-or-treaters or estimate future candy need Explore variation of the number of trick-or-treaters year by year Look at times of the day, days of the week or combinations Look at averages, look at trends, use color, use annotations in Tableau to point out important items, 2.) This is a very simple data set. There are only a few years of data broken down into 4 half-hour time blocks with cumulative totals. Think broadly about the data. Examples: The data is time series data What comparisons can you make? What table calculations can be made? 3.) Build a few data visualizations First, you will need to ask questions - for example, how does the number of visitor vary over time? You need to make a lot of charts to find the effective ones. Consider the number of charts generated for the Coffee Chain Data. There are a lot of charts that try to look at the data from multiple perspectives. Try not to get hung up on one aggregation like average. Feel free to be creative - you can add other data if you want to as well! Instructions: This is a very open ended assignment with loose rules. Develop charts and tables that tell a story for the Halloween dataset. Use appropriate charts for the given dataset and data. Create a dashboard or two to support your work. Your write up should state how many trick or treaters this address should expect. Provide a range of +/- 50 trick or treaters and your expected value. Your document should support your conclusions (indicate why you chose your range and expected value).Indicate when those trick-or-treaters are expected to arrive (time slot). Examples: The attached pdf has examples of charts and dashboards created by the general public and other students across the country (yes, this is a very popular assignment). The examples go from fairly simple to quite complex. I cannot say that all of them are well-designed, they are just examples of how people have been creative and integrated external data like weather from those days etc. Take a look! Submit a tableau file (.twbx) with your analysis. Submit a Microsoft Word or pdf document with your conclusions from your analysis.
