Homework #5: Estimation
1) The data in the table below on left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) were collected from a group of 27 patients with acute dilated cardiomyopathy. Calculate the standard deviation of LVEF for these patients. For this problem, when adding up the components of the variance, keep all calculations for the LVEF to 4 decimal places, IE 0.0009. Once the variance is found, please round the number to just 2 decimal places.

2) Calculate the standard error of the mean for LVEF.
3) Find the upper 2.5th percentile of a t distribution with 7 degrees of freedom.
4) Compute a 95% confidence interval for the mean duration of hospitalization using the data in Table 2.13 on page 36 of the Rosner text.
5) If a normal hospital stay is 5 days, is the hospital stay for the sample in Question #4 statistically different than normal?
6) Redo Question #4, but this time the sample is 250 patients.
7) If a normal hospital stay is 5 days, is the hospital stay for this large sample in Question #6 statistically different than normal?
