This homework assignment requires to use statistical software SPSS and the general well-being data set stored in ‘GWBEFA.sav’ file to answer the questions listed below.

The construct General Well-Being consists of six components, anxiety, depression, positive well-being, general health, vitality, and self-control. The items were not arranged according to the sequence of the components.

The variable numbers (v1 to v22) are associated with items numbers in SPSS .sav file. Each item has a rating scale from 1 to 6 to represent respondent’s perception on how close the statement describing his/her situation is.   The lowest possible total score for General Well-Bing is 22 (1 x 22) and the highest score is 132 (6 x 22) assuming there is no missing data. The higher the score the more positive the respondent perceived his/her general well-being. It is the researcher’s intention that not all items were scored in the same direction, therefore, 12 items need to be recoded before calculating a total score. Those variables which have decimal points have been recoded; therefore, you do not to recode them. The original author of this instrument has clustered items as follows, and I will not give you their names but use component 1, 2, …, 6.

Component 1 (v2, v6, v9, v12 and v15), Component 2 (v8, v13 and v17), Component 3 (v3, v10, and v14), Component 4 (v1, v5, v19, and v22), Component 5 (v7, v11, and v21), Component 6 (v4, v16, v18 and v20).
