Your Convenience Store

Your Convenience Store is a chain of 23 convenience stores located in the southwest United States. The following data are provided in the excel file:

·         Store Number

·         Prior year audited sales dollars

·         Current year sales dollars

·         Current year inventory

·         Store square feet

·         Average number of full-time employees

·         Whether the store sells gas (listed an a “1”)

If there is a blank cell in the “prior year audited sales dollars” column, the store was opened during the current year. Typically, a store’s operations do not change much unless a new product line is introduced, such as selling gas, offering check cashing services, and so forth.  The mix of products and services can vary, and the most important factor is whether the store sells gas.  Benchmark data for convenience stores shows that sales average $490 per square foot. 

You have just been assigned to this audit. The audit manager is also newly assigned to this client, and you have been asked to provide as much insight into this client, based upon the provided data, as you can.  You should verify the data and at a minimum provide the following visualizations to meet the manager’s needs:

·         Inventory turnover

·         Store sales: current and prior year

·         Store sales: current and prior year in ascending order of sales

·         Sales per square foot compared with benchmark ($490)

·         Correlation between sales and number of employees

 

After providing these visualizations, derive insights/conclusions based on them, as well as any potential questions that you would like to ask your client and/or the audit manager. Your group can consist of 1-4 students. Excluding the visualizations, which should also be submitted in the same Word document, your write-up should be 1.5-2 single-spaced pages, size 12 Times New Roman font with 1-inch margins all around.
