In addition the questionnaire contains a variable that reflects the cognitive distance between project partners

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

 1.    ANOVA

We have already seen in assignment 1 that in the questionnaire several questions were asked about the success and the outcome of the projects. We have already worked with:

I)             The technological success (variable Techsuccess)

II)            The economic success (variable Econsuccess)

III)           The ecological success (variable Ecolsuccess)

We will continue to work with these success variables in this question. In addition the questionnaire contains a variable that reflects the cognitive distance between project partners (variable diversity). This variable diversity is the distance with respect to the knowledge bases of project partners have been examined.

To answer the question about cognitive distance (variable diversity), respondents could choose from the following categories:

1)  Very small distance

2)  Small distance

3)  Distance neither small nor large

4)  Large distance

5)  Very large distance

First, create a new variable called diversity3 where you merge the first two categories (1 and 2) and the last two (4 and 5). The middle category remains as it is. So you create a variable with three categories. Label them successively:

1)  Low cognitive distance

2)  Middle cognitive distance

3)  High cognitive distance

We want to examine whether the three diversity groups (new variable diversity3) differ significantly in terms of the different types of success (variables Techsuccess, Econsuccess and Ecolsuccess). Perform appropriate ANOVAs to analyze this.

a.    #Do the diversity3 groups differ significantly on:

·         Techsuccess

·         Econsuccess

·         Ecolsuccess?

Use a= 5% and make sure to also give the experimental hypotheses as well as the null hypotheses in your answer.

b.    Express the strength of the differences of question 1a in a measurement. Show your calculations and interpret the results. (tip: for each of three ANOVAs you need to provide a calculation and interpretation).

c.    Based on question 1a we now know which ANOVA(s) is/are statistically significant. We continue in this question with an ANOVA that was statistically significant in question 1a. So, your first task is to select an ANOVA that is statistically significant.

Suppose we had no idea in advance which of the diversity groups differ on the different types of success. Therefore, we will perform a post-hoc analysis according to Tukey (a= 5%) for this selected ANOVA.

# Which diversity groups differ significantly? Describe both output tables of the post-hoc Tukey analysis in your answer.

 2.    two-way ANOVA

In research scholars have looked at the influence of previous research (variable PrevR) and previous collaboration (variable PrevC). In the literature it has been hypothesized that both variables have a positive effect on project success. For both variables, we will first examine this for economic success (variable Econsuccess).

a.    #Carry out two ANOVA’s to answer the following questions:

Does the group with previous research (PrevR) have a significantly higher economic success (variable Econsuccess) than the group without previous research?

Does the group with previous collaboration (PrevC) have a significantly higher economic success (variable Econsuccess) than the group without previous collaboration?

Use a= 5%. In your answer make sure to also give the experimental hypotheses as well as the null hypotheses and support the answer with plots of the group averages.

We now continue with a two-way ANOVA.

b.    Perform a two-way ANOVA for the influence of the factors PrevR and PrevC on the economic success of the projects (Econsuccess).

What is the effect of PrevR and what is the effect of PrevC? And is there an interaction effect?

In your answer, discuss the significance and effect sizes from the ANOVA table and include and discuss a plot of the averages. Use a= 5%.
