INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

One of the primary duties of an accountant is to prepare written reports. Accountants today must be able to research, interpret and communicate complex accounting subjects in an easy-to-understand manner. The subject of your research may be any auditing, financial reporting or tax-related issue that you can research in the FASB Codification database.

Your final paper should meet the following requirements: seven (7) page minimum length (including cover page and references page) body of the paper (content) must be a minimum of 5 pages, double spaced utilize and cite AT LEAST two outside sources (other than the course text) include citations using APA guidelines include a cover page and a bibliography page (not included in the content minimum) 12 pt. font Times New Roman VeriCite score of 25% or less (you can submit your paper to the assignment to see the VeriCite score. You do not need to do anything else. You can check as many times as you like, I will only review the final submission). NO Google docs or Pages files will be accepted. You should submit a Word doc or a PDF. Submissions will be checked for authenticity using VeriCite. VeriCite generates a similarity score comparing your writing to online resources and the work of other students. If you have questions about submitting an assignment through Vericite, this quick walkthrough video may help:

PRESENTATION EVALUATION AND GRADING: Presentation – another key of any accounting professional is being able to verbally communicate and present their issue, related research, and conclusions. A short video presentation is required to be recorded and uploaded by all students to discuss their topic, related issues, research and analysis, different viewpoints, and overall conclusion (this is on the topic of your research paper). Students should also use PowerPoint slides to illustrate their discussion. Students can create and upload their video. There is a module included in the course that describes creating and uploading your own video. 25 points – Introduction of yourself, the topic, and outline of the issue or issues you are researching. 80 points - Adequate explanation and summary of the subject and related research support and analysis.

35 points - Communication skills: being clear, concise and to the point. 20 points – Use of illustrative material to support your presentation (PowerPoint slides) and the ease of the audience to view the slides (contain key points only, visually appealing). 40 points - Analysis of various viewpoints including your own opinion of the subject matter as well as an overall conclusion. The conclusion should also discuss why you arrived at your decision and include the defense of your position. A good rule of thumb is approximately 10 slides (including an introduction and a works cited slide) and a presentation of at least 5-10 minutes. Of course, feel free to do more, this is just a general guide. The presentation can be a video of yourself presenting or PowerPoint slides with a voice-over. Google Docs links will NOT be accepted.
