You are an employee of Acme Group (AG), an insurance company founded in 1955. AG offers a number of insurance and risk management products. One of its larger divisions offers workers compensation coverage. Your current task is to analyze workers compensation claims data (attached). The Excel file contains the claims data in one worksheet and variable definitions in another worksheet. Each row of the claims data represents an individual workers comp claim.

Review the attached workers comp claims data and variable definitions. You need to spend some time to research on the Workers Comp area to understand the data better. Your data analysis will be as good as your understanding of the domain where the data comes from. This is a true statement: the more you know the problem domain, the more interesting questions you can ask. So go research this industry domain and learn as much as you could before you start using Tableau (a few sample articles: here 1, here 2, here 3, etc. but do your own research beyond these…)

Come up with business questions that analysis of the data can shed light on and that may be of interest to the management of AG’s workers comp division. You may want to start with a basic business question(s) to start answering with in Tableau. This may then lead you to another rounds of related questions to deepen and/or broaden your analyses. By answering those related questions in a series and putting your answers together, create a story of insights from the data.
