Recall Results and APA Figure Exercise

The goal of this short writing assignment is to re-familiarize you with APA formatting and to start working with real datasets when writing an APA style Results section. The submitted assignment should include an APA cover page (page 1), results section (page 2) and a figure with APA style figure caption (page 3). The other two figures should be pages 4 and 5.

Method

In two PSYC 121 classes, 78 students (10 male and 68 female) were instructed to have a piece of paper and a writing utensil or an open Word document ready in preparation for a short memory task. Participants were then given 30 seconds to view 20 items in an image projected on two overhead screens at the front of the classroom. At the end of the exposure period, the image was removed from view and the students were given an additional 30 seconds to list as many items as they could recall. When the recall time expired, the items were again shown, and the students self-scored their recall accuracy. By a show of hands, the number of correctly recalled items was recorded separately for males and females. The data listed in Table 1 are the number of items recalled.

Results

The results section for this assignment should include descriptive statistics about the recall accuracy as well as any directional findings. At a minimum, the statistics should include mean, median, standard deviation and range. A histogram should also be included as an APA- style figure on a separate page.
