We are interested in the relationship between occupational status (PRESTG10) and income (CONRINC), guided by the general hypothesis that people in higher status jobs will make more money.
PRESTG10 is how prestigious or high-status an occupation is ranging, theoretically, from 0 (lowest possible status occupation) to 100 (highest possible status occupation), based on the impressions of a large sample of adults in the U.S. For example, the job "physician" has a prestige score of 80, whereas the job of "car washer" has a prestige score of 19. In the GSS, respondents with higher PRESTG10 scores are in higher status occupations, and respondents with lower PRESTG10 scores are in lower status occupations.
Inspect the frequency distribution of PRESTG10 and CONRINC.
1) Estimate the linear regression of CONRINC on PRESTG10. Attach the regression table here.
2) Substantively interpret the intercept (Constant).
3) Substantively interpret the beta for the effect of PRESTG10 on income.
4) How was the t-value for the PRESTG10 beta calculated? Is the effect of PRESTG10 on income statistically significant in the population? How do you know?
5) Using SPSS, wrap a 95% confidence interval around PRESTG10’s beta, report the values and substantively interpret.
6) Show that 5) matches your hand-calculation.
7) Calculate and write-in the average income by each occupational prestige level below predicted by the regression model. Use all decimals for calculation.

8) Make and display a nice-looking line graph (with title) of average income by occupational prestige predicted by the regression model. Attach it here.
9) Briefly discuss the main pattern in the figure.
