Reflective Journal The reflective journal should centre on what you have learnt from the five-afternoon computer laboratory exercises within the context of each morning’s theory class and training session. It is to be essentially a computer laboratory learning log.
The maximum permissible length of the reflective journal is five A4 pages, divided into sections corresponding to the five days of the course. The journal should be presented using regular font size, (such as Times New Roman 11-12pt or Arial 10pt), 1.5 line spacing and with all margins at least 2cm. For each day’s laboratory exercise, your journal should detail any specific understanding gained as well as any difficulties experienced. As a guide, the journal should address (at least) the following questions:
What conceptual and analytical understanding was gained from the session?
What difficulties were experienced with the exercise?
What were the reasons or contributing factors for any problems that arose? What can be learnt from experiencing these problems?
What was learned from this session that can be applied to your future research work (if applicable)? Hint: structure the journal entries under sub-headings related to the questions above. Also include any other relevant insights. The reflective journal should help support your claim that you performed the exercises and confirm that you have achieved the learning objectives of the unit (refer to course manual).
Reflective journals will be assessed predominantly on the basis of evidence of their value to the student.
