What is the best location for the new store of a local pharmacy franchise, Australian Pharmacy?
Your client, Australian Pharmacy, is proposing to set up a new store in Sydney area or in a large regional center. It will sell medicines and offer health consultation services to the local community. It will have two pharmacists in the store, and it will be equipped with two separate consultation rooms, which requires a large piece of land. Australian Pharmacy hopes to serve local residents. It aims to be a place not only to pick up prescriptions but also to offer a range of health services (e.g., consultation services to the elderly and people with chronic health issues) at a low cost to save patients the hassle of a trip to the doctor. It is understood that a long term relationship is easier to be established with the elderly or families with children, which can generate a greater long-run profit (mainly in selling medicines). It is also expected that profit will be higher in areas where incomes are greater, education levels are higher, and where mid-class family rate is higher. Areas with a high proportion of young adults in the population are expected to be less profitable. It is crucial that Australian Pharmacy take into consideration the amount of competition from other pharmacies and hospitals in the area. It also needs to consider the availability and the cost of renting a property that has adequate parking and transport accessibility.
You will be assigned three Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Sydney or well populated regional areas in NSW. Your aim is to make a case comparing these three locations and select the best area (out of the three) for the new store to be located.

The demographic make-up of the LGAs in NSW which you will be allocated includ- ing the socio-economic and age status of the population.
How many competing pharmacies and hospitals are currently available in the area?
The cost of land or long-term rental for setting up a pharmacy.
You are encouraged to add any other factors which you believe are relevant.
Format
Your report should be max 10 pages excluding the cover page and bibliography. The text should be in 1.5 spaced typescript. The typeface size should be no less than 11 point. The margins on each page should not be less than 30mm on the left-hand side, 30mm on the right-hand side, 30mm at the top and 20mm at the bottom. Please number the pages. The report submission should be in pdf format. It should not contain a table of contents and it would be preferable to integrate tables and graphs into the text, rather than using an appendix.
The Excel spreadsheet should show the formulas in calculations you have used as well as the data. Please make sure your graphs are well labeled and your data are well specified. The uploaded spreadsheet will be used to check your methods. Use only one file, and feel free to include multiple sheets/tabs in it.

Week 6 - Your three LGAs have been selected randomly and are accessible on the course website. It is very important that you check their locations on the map provided by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) at here. Use the 2016 census year, enter the name of your LGA and select LGAs. For instance, if you type in Randwick, there are many choices and the relevant one for you is Randwick(C), NSW, LGA. Look carefully at the map to see what suburbs are included in the shaded area. Do NOT confuse an LGA with a suburb of the same name. For instance, the Randwick LGA includes not only the suburb Randwick, but also suburbs from Kensington to La Perouse. Some LGAs were amalgamated after the 2011 census and changed names as well, so you will need to check carefully if you are using data from a previous census that the areas are comparable.
Consider the criteria you will use, the type of information you will need and where to get it. Consider ABS as one of your main sources. A thorough investigation of the ABS data for EACH LGA is expected to start with. Consider what other sources of data besides the ABS you will use. A team discussion about all relevant aspects is expected. Break down the tasks and discuss with your team mate about potential options. Draft a preliminary version of your team charter.
2. Week 7 Get a comprehensive study about the three LGAs you were assigned to. Examine thoroughly the relevant information about the areas and their inhabitants. Start downloading your data into a spreadsheet. Feel free to use the knowledge you learnt from the course to explain/understand the research topic. Use different sheets for different data. Label them appropriately. Demonstrate your ability to apply statistical methods and construct graphs. Consider your presentation in the spreadsheet carefully. Do NOT cite compiled graphs without acknowledgment. Do NOT assume the reader will understand a data spreadsheet with no instruction. Keep a record of your progress and each individual’s contribution faithfully. Submit your team charter before the deadline.
3. Week 8 Analyse the data. Apply knowledge we covered in lectures in your analysis. What type of data do you have? What type of graphs will be most suitable? You are expected to use a variety of statistical and graphical tools in your analysis. Look at measures such as the mean and standard deviation and any other relevant descriptive statistics for the numerical data. Try to draw some insights from these statistical aspects. Pin-point your insights, and think of the way to organise them. Keep a record of your progress and each individual’s contribution faithfully.
4. Week 9 & 10 Draft your report and spreadsheet. The report should show refer- ences and the most important tables, charts and information from the spreadsheet. A thorough investigation, with supporting charts, about all three LGAs, is expected. Please give clear recommendations and reasons why you choose the most suitable LGA to locate the Australian Fitness.
