Capgemini case study: building from expertise - using inhouse talent to create a new approach to managing and using data.
Employing over 180,000 people across 40 countries, Capgemini relies on the expertise and skills of its workforce to deliver high organisational and financial performance. Faced with challenges such as siloed departments and reporting of often disconnected data, Capgemini sought to create a tool that would offer access to key human capital data and insights in one place.
Working with partner Qlik they established definitions and indicative metrics in several areas including attrition, talent management and learning and development, and, keeping in touch with stakeholders around the business, built a tool that illustrated their data in a clear and coherent way. Capgemini have seen the appetite for data increase and their HR team are using the data to explore new areas of the workforce which they believe will improve business performance.
Your Task
Once you have read through the case study very carefully and making use of the data provided, you will:
1. Provide a 400-500-word executive summary of the case.
2. Analyze the data analytics strategy adopted by the company. This should include a description of the data collection methods, data exploration tools used, metrics identified, visualization methods, models generated (if any), and results reached. Answer the following questions in your analysis:
a. Was it a good strategy? What is your justification?
b. What was wrong with the siloed reporting approach applied at Capgemini? What problems may it have caused?
c. What were the main KPIs used? Are they important? Why?
d. Do you suggest other KPIs? If so, why do you believe they would be important?
3. Provide a critical analysis of the Talent Matrix and the dashboards generated by Qlik. Answer the following questions in your analysis:
a. What value do the dashboards have?
b. How can they enhance the HR management performance at Capgemini?
4. Write a proposal showing how Capgemini can benefit from implementing predictive and prescriptive analytics to reach its objective (as, so far, Capgemini used the data analytics tool Qlik for descriptive statistics). Focus on: a. The advantages that predictive and prescriptive analytics can provide Capgemini.
b. The data sources the company may refer to in order to make better use of these types of analytics (e.g., talent pools such as university graduates, personality tests, skills-job fit, etc.).
c. The techniques you recommend to be used (e.g., regression, decision trees, neural networks, optimization, etc.) and how each technique would benefit the company.
5. Submit your analysis in a word document on the following page.
