When determining what statistical analyses to run in SPSS

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

First, review the data (scenario & data file) to determine the status of the organization. Analyze data using descriptive, frequency, and graphing/charting methods.

o When determining what statistical analyses to run in SPSS, ask the following: What is the problem? How do I know there is a problem? The goal of your data analysis is to generate evidence to describe or explain the problem or gap that you identify.

o Most of these analyses can be performed using methods described in Chapters 1-4 of Cronk (2020).

o While the focus of data analysis is to identify and provide evidence of the problem, you need to make sure data analysis is complete. This means that you should run a descriptive or frequency test on every item/variable provided to you in the data file. Remember, different statistical analyses are used for different levels of data.

Organization Profile

Union Public Health OB/GYN clinic.  The physician and NP see approximately 30 patients per day.  Clinic office staff consists of 3 Physicians, 2 NPs, 3 LPNs, and office secretary and insurance staff.

Background

Postpartum depression can be a major complication following childbirth. Although a large number of women suffer from the complication, and screening is inexpensive and time efficient,

routine screening is not standard protocol in most practices providing care to postpartum women.

Postpartum depression is a serious complication of childbirth affecting 10-15% of all deliveries in the United States. Impoverished women and adolescents have a significantly higher risk for developing depression, with limited to no availability to mental health care upon diagnosis. Onset of maternal depression is usually within several weeks after delivery, a critical time for maternal infant bond.

Problem Statement

Continuing undiagnosed mental illness has multiple adverse effects on the family unit, therefore accurate and early identification of depressive symptoms is significant for mother and child.
