• Conduct research to understand the main points of one of these accounting / corporate scandals, paying special attention to the role of the accountants and auditors. For your research it is recommended that you should use the University Library’s Business Source Complete database. However, you can also use other reliable sources. You must cite at least 5 relevant articles from these databases in support of your research. 

 

• Write a report that discusses the events and their implications for accountants, auditors and the accounting profession. Your report should include: 

1. Executive Summary – overview of your report. 

2. The organisation, the time and place and what happened including an overview of the events.

3. One example of fraud or accounting mistreatment in your selected company – Olympus 2011

4. Who the external auditors were, and their role in the scandal. 

5. An assessment of the consequences of the scandal for the entity, the accounting profession and the auditors as well as any general business effects. 

6. A discussion about the linkage between the course materials (Introduction to accounting and financial analysis, Measuring and reporting financial position and management of working capital & Measuring and reporting financial performance inclusive and the scandal / accounting mistreatment in your chosen organisation. In particular, identify the effects of the scandal / accounting mistreatment on the company’s financial statements.
