Individual Report (70%) 3,000 words
Please do the following task:
You are a management consultant and your client has asked to you make a report that will recommend how your client’s business can use AI or Big Data to make better business decisions.
1. Pick a firm – this could be your current or last firm
2. Pick a Research Question – this is a way of focusing your work so that it fits the word count
3. Pick 3-4 theories from class or other academic sources to help you answer your Research Question.
Theories from class
We covered many different theoretical models. Some have many concepts in them, so they help you to analyze in detail and gain high marks. Some models are made of a small number of concepts and will not help your analysis much on their own – if you get stuff then please email me.
Think about:
• What decisions are being made?
• Which business functions and processes are involved?
• Who are the stakeholders?
• What data is available to help with decisions?
• How could this data be analysed – which technology?
Read the section by section notes
Marks will be given for using theoretical ideas from this module, or other academic sources, to understand real business situations. So you must use a Background Literature section to define theoretical ideas and an Analysis section to use them in your analysis of the firm and its situation.
You are encouraged to use the perspectives of the many different stakeholders (e.g. customers, suppliers, regulators, the whole supply chain, the whole market) to come up with ideas.
Any examples that you use must be real and believable, i.e. you can use business ideas or business practices from firms that are different to your client firm but you must be able to justify your points. E.g. you could use a way of analysing data from company A in industry B to suggest an idea for your client company C. Or you could describe how company D has produced new services for its customers as an idea for your client.
Please choose your client firm but check with me first by email.
IMPORTANT
• The only way to pass is to use the models and theories from class or from academic sources in your Background Literature section and your Analysis section (see marking structure below).
• The MAXIMUM SIZE of your report is t.westcott-white@surrey.ac.uk.
• SCREENSHOTS: it is much easier to communicate some points if you use screenshots with arrows, e.g. if you are analysing the design of a client’s web site or using web content. All figures need numbers and descriptive titles. Screenshots with labels cost you ZERO word count.
• REFERENCE all sources of industrial examples and academic references formally:
• The word count does not include these sections: title, Executive Summary, Contents page, References
