Business & Financial Analysis Project
Team Project
Part I (125 points) & Part II (50 points).
Your Business & Financial Analysis Project will be based on a publicly traded company that your team would select before the first week of semester would end. You can learn how to access the annual report (filed to the SEC on Form 10-K) by reading the tutorial available at
http://www.sec.gov/edgar/quickedgar.htm. Use FactSet or Mergent to extract additional years' data where needed. In addition, to fully address key elements of the report, you have to examine various other academically credible research sources in order to collect supporting information where needed.
Guidelines to select the right company (Teams will be finalized during the first day of the class):
Step I:
1. Select three companies from the S&P 500 Index list.
2. Companies should show profits consistently for the last
three years
3. They should carry inventory (merchandise inventory)
4. They should not belong to financial, real estate, insurance, energy, or other regulated industries.
Step II:
Using Step, I, guidelines, email me the list of three companies. For each company describe its business model (i.e., how it monetizes its business) and what motivates your team to select each for the project (description not to exceed five lines each). I will provide you with my feedback and then let you make the final decision as to which ONE of the three your team feels most excited about.
