Assignment 7-1 Conduct proximity analysis for playgrounds In the last tutorial in chapter 7, you conducted a proximity analysis of parks and serious youth pedestrian injuries using 600-foot and 1,200-foot buffers.
In this assignment, you will run the same buffer analysis on playgrounds. Start with this data
• \EsriPress\GISTHealth\Data\Pittsburgh.gdb\BlockCentroids: point centroids for the youth population in the city of Pittsburgh. • \EsriPress\GISTHealth\Data\Pittsburgh.gdb\Neighborhoods: polygon features for neighborhoods in the city of Pittsburgh.
• \EsriPress\GISTHealth\Data\Pittsburgh.gdb\Playgrounds: polygon features of playgrounds in the city of Pittsburgh.
Note: Playgrounds is missing a projection (.prj) file. The correct projection (NAD_1983_StatePlane_Pennsylvania_South_FIPS_3702_Feet) must be assigned for buffers in this assignment to work properly. • \EsriPress\GISTHealth\MyExercises Chapter7\Chapter7.gdb\Injury Residences: point features of pedestrian injuries joined from InjuriesSmith and InjuriesJones earlier in this chapter. (Note: also available in FinishedExercises.) • \EsriPress\GISTHealth\MyExercises\Chapter7\Chapter7.gdb\Rivers: polygon features of rivers created earlier in this chapter.
(Note: also available in FinishedExercises.) Create a file geodatabase Create a file geodatabase named Assignment7-1.gdb and save it to your Chapter7 folder in MyAssignments. Import the preceding features and add them to your map document, symbolized to your liking.
Conduct additional sensitivity analysis for buffers around playgrounds Create a map document named Assignment7-1 YourName.mxd and save it to your Chapter7 folder in MyAssignments using relative paths. Include a map layout that contains a buffer analysis of playgrounds and the number of injuries, sum of youths, and a ratio using buffers of 0.5, 600, and 1,200 feet. Save new buffer features to Assignment7-1.gdb.
Create a Word document Create a Microsoft Word document named Assignment7-1 YourName.docx that includes a table of your analysis results similar to the table you created earlier in this chapter comparing the number of youth injuries with the number of youths in the 600-foot and 1,200-foot buffers. Insert an image of your map of playground buffers below the table. Save it to your Chapter7 folder in MyAssignments.
Hints Assign the projection NAD_1983_State Plane_Pennsylvania_South_FIPS_3702_Feet to playgrounds otherwise, the buffers will not work.
• Use FEET as the buffer unit. Export your map as a JPEG image file named Assignment7-1YourName.jpg and save it to your Chapter? folder in MyAssignments. WHAT TO TURN IN If your work is to be graded, turn in the following files:
• File geodatabase: \EsriPress\GISTHealth MyAssignments\Chapter7\Assignment7-1YourName.gdb ArcMap document: \EsriPress\GISTHealth MyAssignments\Chapter7\Assignment7-1YourName.mxd Microsoft Word document: \EsriPress\GISTHealth MyAssignments\Chapter7\Assignment7-1YourName.docx If instructed to do so, instead of individual files, turn in a compressed file, Assignment7-1YourName.zip, that includes all the preceding files. Do not include path information in the compressed file.
