Group Assignment (weight 75%)

For the purposes of this consultancy exercise (assignment), you need to demonstrate an understanding of certain project and quality management concepts, tools & techniques. Additionally, you must be able to convince your client of any additional work that your team considers needed, both technical and managerial.

For this assignment, you will form into project teams of between 3 and 5 members per team. Assume that this is an Invitation to Tender and you are a team of project consultants.

This Group report should comprise of 3,500 words. The submitted report must be within 10% +/- of this word count. The word count does not include the Title Page, Appendices, Reference List and words in tables and diagrams.

1) Your task is to formulate an all-inclusive offer with documentation to include:

a) Detailed answers to each individual exercise. Each individual exercise answer must be clearly identifiable in your report. Use the same numbering sequence as the exercise questions.

b) Compile supporting information and research to correlate with your overall findings from the individual exercise to draw conclusions and make recommendations as required by section 4.0 Lasting Improvements.

c) Your tender must be clear to a person who is not expert in quality engineering, but it should contain enough technical detail to support your conclusions, recommendations, etc. They will include, from both a technical and managerial perspective, informing the client what you have done, what you have learned, and what you recommend. Short, medium and long-term recommendations must be made and include proposals for a quality programme.

d) Your tender should be professionally presented and be as inclusive as necessary for the work to be undertaken. At a basic level, it should include:

a. The basis of your knowledge to undertake this work.

b. Brief biological profiles of your team.

o Other processes (es) you’ve identified for improvement or for further study.

o Duration of the work.

o Detailed Costs.

2) Present your tender to your client (class mates) during a nominated Zoom Webcast lecture (10 mins).

a) During this session, your group should be prepared to vigorously defend your assumptions, findings, conclusions and recommendations before a panel of assessors. All group members must actively participate in the presentation.

b) Complete and upload the Group/Individual Contribution Report. This is available in appendix 1 of this document and MUST be included as a slide in your PowerPoint presentation. Each group member must refer to this and their specific contribution to the assignment when they introduce themselves at the start of your presentation. (Weighting may depend on your individual contribution to the group)

c) Each presenting group will be assigned another group and be required to provide a rebuttal (critical commentary and suggestions) to the presenting group’s findings, conclusions, etc. This must demonstrate (offers evidence) that you have knowledge of existing opposing view(s) which gives you more credibility than the presenting group. Assume you are the “Best Keys” Senior Management Team i.e. the client.

d) Alternatively groups may elect to submit their presentation slides with detailed speaker notes for each slide. These comprehensive speaker notes will be part of the assessment process.

3) Each member of the group must separately conduct a comprehensive review of the most recent literature available and critically evaluating any one of the following topics:

a) The Significance of Quality in Contemporary Project Management

b) Strategic Challenges of Implementing Total Quality Management

c) Lean Philosophy as a Competitive Advantage.

d) Six Sigma is the Absolute "Professionalization" of Quality Management

e) Quality is the Most Important Aspect of Performance.

Each individual element must include the identification of the author and include its own referencing section.

This report should comprise of 1,500 words for each member of the group. The submitted report must be within 10% +/- of this word count. The word count does not include the Title Page, Appendices, Reference List, and words in tables and diagrams.

(Weight up to 60% of available marks depending on individual contribution to overall assignment)
