Overview
In this project, you will design a correlational study based on the variables in the provided dataset. You will use two or more measurement scales, define research questions, conduct literature research to provide context for the research questions you selected, and analyze the data. You will then report your findings in an APA style paper.
Objectives
• To understand the process of conducting a correlational study in psychology.
• To practice and demonstrate the knowledge and skills learned in the first half of this class, including using SPSS to conduct correlational analysis.
• To practice writing an APA style paper.
Instructions
• You will be provided with a dataset containing a set of variables.
• Your task is to design a correlational study using the variables in the dataset. The study should include the following components:
o A clear research question or hypothesis.
o A discussion of the variables related to your research question (using two or more measurement scales).
o A review of the literature to provide context for the research question.
o A description of the participants, materials, and procedure.
o An analysis of the data using appropriate statistical methods (correlation and regression).
o A discussion of the results and their implications for the research question.
• Your paper should be written in APA style and should include the following sections:
o Introduction: Provide an overview of the research question, the relevant literature, and the purpose and significance of the study. Cite at least five empirical papers published in peer-reviewed journals.
o Method: Describes the participants, the measurement scales used, and the data collection procedures.
o Results: Presents the results of the data analysis in a clear and concise manner.
o Discussion: Summarize the findings, relate them to the existing literature, and address the study's implications and limitations.
• Your paper should include a title page, abstract (limit to 150 words), references, and three tables (descriptive statistics, correlation, and regression).
• The main text of your paper does not need to exceed 10 double-spaced pages in length, not including the title page, abstract, references, or tables.
Submission
• The SPSS syntax file that includes syntax commands for all the analyses reported in the paper, with proper comments. You do not need to submit the Output file, however, I should be able to reproduce results using your syntax file without any error or warning.
• The project paper (MS WORD only).
• Name your files as Project1_LastName.
Grading
• Your project paper will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
• Clarity and quality of research question or hypothesis
• Use of two or more measurement scales
• Quality and thoroughness of the literature review
• Quality of the data analysis and interpretation of the results
• Clarity and organization of the paper
• Use of APA style (including proper citation and reference formatting) Important Note
This project does not involve data collection. You will only be analyzing the dataset provided. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Good luck and have fun!
