Calculate something called CR4 the concentration ratio of the top 4 firms; the total % of their market share or sales revenue. For energy drinks, at least from this chart, this looks to be 43+39+10+3 = 95%
Ideally, you will find an industry where CR4 is between 25% and 75% --- don’t use energy drinks! CR4 is too big.
Generally, a small CR4 means that the competition between the firms is more like monopolistic competition than oligopoly. A larger CR4 means that,
generally, oligopoly is a better way of modeling/thinking about the competition between the firms than ¡n monopolistic competition.
Research some ways that the firms in this industry have competed against each other -- this could be pricing, innovation, advertising, and many other
dimensions of competition
Write the following analysis:
Section 1 -- an introduction to the industry and the firms (and products!) inside the industry
Section 2 -- reasons why your chosen industry might be better modeled as being mono politically competitive
Section 3 -- reasons why your chosen industry might be better modeled as an oligopoly.
Section 4 -- your analysis of which model has a better foundation for being chosen, and why
