A text file name GasPrices.txt contains the weekly average prices for a gallon of gas in the United States, beginning on April 5th, 1993, and ending on August 26th, 2013. Figure 1 shows an example of the first few lines of the file’s contents:
Figure 1 Each line in the file contains the average price for a gallon of gas on a specific date. Each line is formatted in the following way: MM-DD-YYYY:Price MM is two digits month, DD is the two-digit day, and YYYY is the four-digit year. Price is the average price per gallon of gas on the specified date. For this project, you are to write one or more programs that read the content of the file and perform the following functions:
AveragePricePerYear: Calculate the average price of gas per year, for each year in the file (The file’s data starts in April of 1993, and it ends in August 2013. Use the data that is present for the years 1993 and 2013.)
AveragePricePerMonth: Calculate the average price of gas for each year in the file.
Highest and Lowest Prices Per Year:For each year in the file, determine the date and amount for the lowest price to the highest price.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE PYTHON PROGRAM *** Use only features of Python covered in chapters 1, 2, 3,4,5,6,7,8 *** *** Projects with programs that have syntax errors automatically receive 0 points ***
1) The programs should do what is specified in the ASSIGNMENT TASKS section above. Points will be taken off for incorrect output formatting. A program that works but does not follow the specifications above will lose points.
2) The first few lines of your program should be comments that state: • the program name, • the author’s (your) name, • date the program is released, • a brief description of the main task performed by the program.
3) Your program should have meaningful variable names (names should not be single letter or abbreviations for example gp is not a good name but gasPrice is a good name). There should be a comment on each major function point: input, calculation, output, setup.
4) Type the entire program in the IDLE editor (not interactive shell).
