Data and visual analytics are used to support management decision making. While your labs provide you with smaller deliverables, the best way to improve your storytelling with data skills is to put them to use! 

ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES 

Choose a research question that you will answer using data; some examples are provided below (you are NOT limited to this list of potential questions): 

• Can I predict bankruptcy for internet companies? Can I predict bankruptcy for airlines based on most recent financials? 

• Can I predict Airbnb rental prices based on location? 

• What is the impact of audit adjustments on materiality? 

• Is risk of loan repayment related to interest rate charged? 

• Which of our customers is most profitable? 

• What are predictors of loan repayment? 

• What variables predict real estate prices?

• What variables predict the stock market price? Earnings? Operating cash flows?

• Is Amazon outperforming Walmart, and the industry? Sales, Earnings, Stock Returns? Differences in debt? Profit margins? Asset Turnover? 

• Which airline company has been most affected by COVID-19? Sales, profitability and stock returns • Which entertainment company has been most affected by COVID-19? Sales, profitability and stock returns 

• Which industries have changed most after the pandemic? 

• What inputs could be used to predict credit card fraud? 

• Can we determine the amount of AFDA required based on previous defaults? 

 

Take into consideration the principles of Storytelling with Data and ensure that your visualizations are created thoughtfully and with the audience in mind. 

You will be assessed on:

i) The quality of the question(s) you analyze 

ii) The appropriateness of your analysis for the question you are answering 

iii) The breadth and depth of your analysis 

iv) The design of your visualizations 

v) The quality of your storytelling 

vi) Your presentation skills and professionalism
