Please download a copy of the “Data Screening Sample Data” SPSS dataset to check the integrity of the data that are contained in this dataset. For each variable, please check to ensure that there are no outliers or data entry errors. Use the “Explore” option in SPSS to screen the variables in your dataset.

If you identify an outlier please specify the criterion that you are using to define a value as an outlier.

In a research paper, you will have to report the specific method that you used to define a score as an “outlier” and what you did with that score (e.g., that you deleted that value from all of your subsequent analyses).

You should run stem and leaf plots on the data and generate histograms of your data. In addition, be sure to calculate means, medians, and measures of dispersion including standard deviation on variables that are appropriate.

On other variables it will be more appropriate to run frequency analyses. If you find errors please delete that data point and re-run your analyses to see how it changes your output. You should notice some very big changes to the output when you eliminate the outlier values.
