1. Connect Tableau to data.world using the web data connector.
Make sure your Tableau Desktop is activated version and has the latest updates.
2. Check if your Tableau integration is “Enabled” here: https://data.world/integrations/data-dot-world-tableau
3. For more information, read the integration documentation here: https://help.data.world/hc/en-us/articles/115010298907-Tableau-Web-Data-Connector
4. Go to Coursework on data.world and select “Launch workspace”.
Click HERE to access the URL.
5. Your landing page on the Coursework workspace will look like this:
6. You have three datasets. Only the Global and Malaysia COVID-19 datasets will be updated daily. Please use the freshest data in sync with your visualization, whether you choose direct download or using the web data connector.
7. Please copy the connector URL into Tableau, click “open in app” > “Open with Tableau”.
You will see the popup message as below. Click “Copy”. Follow instructions. Done.
Create a 1-page infographic story about the COVID19 outbreak in Malaysia.
Unlike dashboard which typically has no accompanying text description, your infographic story board should contain the following:
1. A clear and concise objective statement summarizing the message you want to communicate. The motivation which inspires this story and the insights you could derive from this story.
2. Multiple charts (no limit) demonstrating the “how” to draw and manipulate the design. Taking care of the grammar and perception of visualization. Short description to accompany the charts where necessary.
3. Implicitly at the back of your mind, make use of Munzner’s nested model (see figure below) to guide your thought process through the what-why-how structure when deciding which viz design most suitable to the data and tasks at hand.
The datasets are real and comprehensive. The Malaysian dataset is updated by a volunteer. Read Kim’s interview on The Stars dated 27 Mar 2020 here. Besides, the global dataset as well as other datasets about Malaysia are also provided. You cannot possibly include all the data on 1 page, please carefully think about what are the right things to show on your story.
This assignment tests the quality of your work based on what you’ve learned from week 1 to week 4. Specifically, the unit learning objectives 1 and 2 concerning your ability in handling data, visualization, and communication in the intended meaning and context. While querying data using SQL is not necessary, it would be a plus point in pulling relevant data for your visualization. (See the “Introduction to SQL” short course on Datacamp).
The assessment criteria (grading rubrics) can be found in the assignment submission link.
This step serves as a “turnitin” function in an otherwise written assignment. You will share your infographics image and story text to Moodle A1: Forum. The public scrutiny should mitigate the risk of plagiarism. Add a new discussion topic to start sharing.

Build a 1-page infographic page using any publishing tool you preferred (e.g. powerpoint, adobe, venngage, piktochart, or the like) for best visual effect. Of course, you may use Tableau dashboard as well. The choice is yours.
2. Label your submission files in the right naming convention and file format as follows:
• Name (Student ID) Story Title.PDF (1-page HIGH-RESOLUTION)
• Name (Student ID) Story Title.TWBX (Tableau workbook and data included)
3. Do not zip your submission files.
4. Edit submission: you may make changes on the submission files at any time before the due date, whether the submission status is “draft (not submitted)” or “submitted for grading”.
• You must accept the student statement (see figure next page) and save changes.
5. Late submission: a penalty of 10% per day applies for each day of late submission or edited submission that is past due.
• Do not make changes once the assignment is past due. Penalty applies strictly based on the last modified (submission) date and time.
• Unless you have arranged for an extension 24 hours before the deadline.
