Module 7 Homework Assignment.

Please analyze the following problem in JMP and answer the questions below.

1. Suppose the Federal Government has collected yearly data on the number of crimes committed per million residents for each of the 50 states.  The crimes were counted in 7 categories: murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, and auto.  In case you’re unfamiliar with the difference between some of these crimes:

Robbery is the taking or attempting to take something of value from another person by use of force, threats or intimidation. It is committed in the presence of the victim. Robbery is commonly known as a "holdup" or a "stickup" (i.e. bank robbery or mugging).

Burglary is the unlawful entry of a ‘structure’ to commit a felony or a theft. Burglary is commonly known as a "break in," or, "breaking and entering."

Larceny is similar to burglary. The major difference between the two is that the perpetrator did not illegally enter a structure by using forcible, non- forcible or attempted forcible entry

Which states have similar crime patterns per million residents? Perform a Cluster Analysis and determine an appropriate number of clusters for the data.  Do the states grouped within each cluster make sense?  In other words, do you see similarities between the states within each cluster?  Comment on the any similarities you notice.
