Scenario You have identified the problem statement for your client. Now you need to propose next steps to your supervisor. Before addressing the business problem, you need to identify the data analysis requirements. Your supervisor has asked you, “As the analyst on this project, what do you need?” Using information you have, translate your client's organizational problem into data analysis requirements. Review the information provided and consider how you might solve this organizational problem. Directions Using one of the templates provided, draft a proposal to your stakeholders. The proposal should outline your plan to gather, collect, and use data to solve their problem. Explain the reasoning behind your requirements to address this organizational problem. Please note: You may have already completed several of the following tasks in the Project Two Milestone. Be sure to include the following in your proposal: Research Questions Use the problem statement you formed in Project One to write 2-4 clear, measurable, and testable research questions that will inform your data analysis requirements for addressing your client's problem. (Note that in a corporate environment, these questions are more often referred to as "business" questions. For the purposes of this course, we will refer to them as “research” questions.) Your research questions must align to your client’s goals. Have you identified which requirements are most critical and which are "nice-to-haves"? How will you resolve conflicting requirements? Data Types Your data analysis requirements will depend on your research questions. Review your questions. Determine the type(s) of data you will need to gather to answer your research questions. Do you need quantitative or qualitative data (or both)? Why? Success Criteria After reviewing the information provided by your client, consider how they measure success in relation to addressing the problem. Define success criteria necessary for achieving positive outcomes in addressing an organizational problem. Variables of Interest or Units of Analysis Now, consider what data is available to you by reviewing the supporting documentation (the codebooks in the Supporting Materials section) from your client. Identify the variables of interest or units of analysis that meet your data analysis requirements. Address the following: Based on your research questions, what variables of interest do you need? This includes independent and dependent variables. Are there useful variables that somewhat align to your data analysis requirements? If using qualitative data, what is or are the unit(s) of analysis you will study? Data Gathering and Analysis Approach Your client plans to provide their data in a CSV file. Your organization currently uses SQL. Stakeholders are interested in your plan for gathering and analyzing the data. Outline your general data analysis approach for gathering and analyzing the data. Given the information provided and the format of the data, will you able to access the data you need? Is there existing data you can leverage or do you need to collect it? Rationale You want to begin gathering and analyzing your client's data. But first, you must receive approval to move forward. The stakeholders need to understand your data analysis plan before you continue. Discuss your rationale for the data analysis requirements you have outlined by explaining how they align to the research questions. Address the following: How does the data align to the research question? How will you use the data to address the problem? Will using this data meet the needs of the client? What quantitative or qualitative methods will be used to analyze the data? How will the analysis help to address the research questions? What to Submit To complete this project, you must submit the following: Data Analysis Requirements Proposal Write your stakeholders' proposal using one of the templates (Word Document Template or PowerPoint Presentation Template). Be sure to outline the data analysis requirements needed to address your client’s problem statement. You want your stakeholders to understand your plan so that you can receive approval, so you will need to include your rationale in the proposal.
