In the setting of the pandemic the entire population can be considered as being “treated” in 2020 relative to 2019. Thus, to estimate the effect of the school closure due COVID-19 crises on school related searches, this thesis, first, relies on a DD estimation that compares nationwide searches pre-and post-lockdown in 2020 to searches pre – and post the same period in 2019. Secondly, I am also interested in differences among socioeconomic groups. This means, that in the second part of my analysis, we need to think about “treatment” as belonging to a specific socioeconomic group. Basically, this means that the effects of the pandemic “treatment effects” of group X are measured relative to the other group Z. For example, if distinguishing between low- and high socioeconomic group, one could consider being in high socioeconomic group as treatment and thereby applying the DD methods to estimate the search intensity of high socioeconomic group relative to low socioeconomic group during the pandemic. Estimating the \delta coefficients in a regression on the search intensity, s_{it} of group i in time t, by a ordinary least squares regressions gives the following equations; Equation (1) estimates the effect of low socioeconomic group relative to high, (2) the effects of having vocational, short further, medium further or long further education. (3) the effects of single parents relative to non-single parents (4), the effects among ethnic group.
